Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, sometimes referred to as POTR, is an American state rock grouping based in California.[i] The band consists of Lukas Nelson (pb vocals, guitar), Anthony LoGerfo (drums, percussion), Corey McCormick (bass guitar, vocals), Logan Metz (keyboards, lap steel, guitar, harmonica, vocals), and Tato Melgar (percussion). Lukas is the son of Willie Nelson. Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real has released 6 studio albums and 4 EP'due south.

Since 2015, Promise of the Real accept been Canadian musician Neil Young's regular backing band. The band has recorded 2 studio albums with Young, The Monsanto Years (2015) and The Visitor (2017), a soundtrack album, Paradox (2018), and a live album, Earth (2016).

Germination of Hope of the Real [edit]

Lukas Autry Nelson moved from Paia, Hawaii to Los Angeles in 2007 to attend Loyola Marymount University where he met and became friends with future keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist Logan Metz, who after joined the band in 2018. In 2008, Nelson met then electric current if all else fails drummer Anthony LoGerfo at a Neil Immature concert, where they bonded over their shared love of rock music. They began playing music together regularly after Lukas dropped out of college in October, 2008.[2] They enlisted Tato Melgar (percussionist), and Merlyn Kelly (bassist) to form POTR.

Live Beginnings (2008–2009) [edit]

The band played its starting time shows in the fall of 2008, selling its first EP Live Beginnings to pay for touring. The album contained live tracks recorded at the "Belly Up" venue in Solana Beach, California.

In January 2009, the band began a nine-show bout opening for Willie Nelson, including a five-dark stop at The Fillmore in San Francisco. Following that tour the band embarked on a ii-calendar week tour with B.B. Male monarch through Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and Nebraska.[3]

Brando's Paradise Sessions EP (2009) [edit]

In April 2009, Hope of the Real released its first studio EP, Brando'southward Paradise Sessions. Its encompass art became the basis for the band's peace sign logo.

Original bassist Merlyn Kelly left the band in 2009. Corey McCormick became the band'southward bass player in 2010. McCormick had performed with Chris Cornell of Soundgarden.[4]

Promise of the Real Touring Appearances (2010–2012) [edit]

The band released its showtime album, Promise of the Real, in December 2010.

Hope of the Real was recorded in Austin, Texas at Pedernales Studios in March 2010. Album engineer Steve Chadie'south half-dozen-yr-old girl provided the embrace art. The album likewise contains a booklet of paintings and illustrations created on stage past Lukas's brother, Micah, during the ring'due south concerts.

The album consists of 12 tracks and 1 bonus track. Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real played more than 200 shows across the The states during 2011, promoting "Promise of the Existent". Major festival appearances included Stagecoach, Farm Assist, Span Schoolhouse Do good, Sturgis Buffalo Flake Campground, and Willie Nelson's Country Throwdown Tour. The ring too made national TV appearances on The This evening Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Alive!, and the Late Show with David Letterman.[6]

The ring frequently opened shows for Willie Nelson in 2012 during which Lukas played with his male parent's ring.

Wasted (2012) [edit]

The ring released its second studio album, Wasted, on April 3, 2012. Following the album'south release, the ring embarked on a national bout at Antone'due south Nightclub in Austin, Texas.

The band was featured on a webcast through Yahoo Music that was shot at TRI Studios, Bob Weir's studio. The webcast aired on April 17, 2012 and has been viewed by hundreds of thousands. The band was featured as the homepage artist on Yahoo music.[7]

On May 1, 2012, Live Nation announced that Lukas Nelson & Hope of the Existent would back John Fogerty on his coast-to-coast tour of Canada in September 2012.

Willie Nelson's Heroes (2012) [edit]

Willie Nelson'southward anthology Heroes released on May xv, 2012, featured Lukas on x of the 14 tracks.

Willie and Promise of the Real performed a cover of Pearl Jam's "Just Breathe" live on Willie's Roadhouse channel on Sirius XM on May fifteen, 2012. Lukas and his father performed "Texas Flood" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on May 14, 2012.

Collaborations with Neil Young [edit]

Neil Immature jammed with Lukas Nelson & Hope of the Existent later Farm Aid 2014.[8]

The Monsanto Years (2015) [edit]

In January 2015, Neil Young and the band, including Lukas' brother (but non band member) Micah Nelson, recorded the concept anthology The Monsanto Years. The album includes "A Rock Star Bucks A Coffee Shop" which targets Starbucks and its use of genetically-modified food. POTR and Micah toured as Young's backing band in 2022 and 2016.

The album recording and alive rehearsals were filmed by Don Hannah in Apr 2022 for a film also entitled The Monsanto Years.[8]

Globe (2016) [edit]

On June 17, 2016, the live album Earth was released. Information technology was recorded during the Rebel Content Tour in 2022 and featured live performances augmented past studio overdubs and nature and beast sounds.

The Visitor (2017) [edit]

On Nov 3, 2017, Immature announced a new album with Promise of the Real. The anthology, entitled The Company, was released December ane and included a vocal chosen "Already Great".[9]

Paradox (2018) [edit]

This album is the soundtrack album to Daryl Hannah'southward picture show Paradox released on March 23, 2018.

Lukas Nelson & Hope of the Real (2017) [edit]

The ring signed with Fantasy Records and released the self-titled anthology, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real on August 25, 2017.[10] The album hitting No. i on the Americana Radio Chart the week of November 10, 2017[11] Lady Gaga, with whom Nelson was collaborating on A Star Is Born, provided backing vocals on two tracks. The album earned the band its first Americana Music Awards nomination for Duo/Group of the Yr.[12]

Willie Nelson & The Boys (Willie's Stash, Vol. 2) (2017) [edit]

On Oct 20, 2017, Legacy Recordings released "Willie Nelson and the Boys (Willie's Stash, Vol. 2)", a family unit collaboration showcasing Willie, Lukas, and Micah performing a selection of American country music classics, including seven penned by Hank Williams, Sr.[thirteen]

A Star Is Born (2018) [edit]

A Star Is Born, directed by Bradley Cooper and starring Cooper and Lady Gaga, was released in Oct 2018.[14] Nelson co-produced the music for the moving-picture show, writing songs with Gaga, later on beingness hired every bit an authenticity consultant to Cooper. [xviii] [19] Naked Garden includes previously unreleased versions and alternate takes of songs that were recorded during the Turn Off The News (Build A Garden) sessions at Shangri-La and Hamlet Studios.[twenty]

A Few Stars Apart (2021) [edit]

On April 28, 2021, the band appear their next studio anthology release on Fantasy Records, A Few Stars Autonomously, accompanied by the commencement single released from the album, "Perennial Bloom (Back To You lot)." Bachelor June xi, 2021, the anthology was recorded at RCA Studio A in Nashville and Produced by Dave Cobb. [21]
